RATTAN
Rattan-mat furniture is a tropical product imported from the Far East. The highest quality rattan is obtained from plants which grow close to the equator. Processing plays even a bigger role than the raw material in the quality of rattan furniture.
Rattan-mat products provide the most comfortable and convenient furniture for hot summer days. It is not recommended to use wicker (core rattan) furniture outdoors in winter or in humid environments. Regular Rattan and Pulut (mat with skin) furniture is more suitable for outdoor use it is weatherproof. Almost all such furniture is produced in the Far East. It is manufactured in facilities that range from small, underdeveloped workshops to high-tech factories.
Rattan-mat furniture brings a natural warmth to spaces, suitable for every style and occasion. As they are mainly used outdoors, we recommend the following:
Rattan-mat products are natural products and they need to be protected from exposure to excessive water. They should be protected from water and from rain. Using rattan-mat furniture in excessively humid interiors may cause mold to develop. Clean them using brush or cloth. A quality product will not need maintenance or painting. It is not recommended to repaint your furniture until the old paint has completely worn off. Your furniture is immune to extreme weather temperatures. If you follow these recommendations, a quality product will last for long years.
A high quality rattan has no marks on it. The canes are standard in diameter. Rattan canes forming the main body of a piece of furniture need to be woven using special moulds and be finished with special screws.
Quality mat weaving requires skill and experience. Strong mat canes should be chosen for weaving (fragile mat cane will break even under normal conditions). It should be woven tightly. The ends of the cane should be hidden skillfully. The jointed areas must be very tightly and evenly woven.
Rattan is susceptible to worm infestation. Prevention is possible with today’s technology. Some insecticide systems may not be adequate as they only eradicate the living worms and do not harm the eggs. Even though the rattan-mat production is based on handcraftsmanship, a multi-stage control system and an efficient production system are necessary to avoid the change of infestation.
The wide range of rattan-mat products includes tables, chairs, seating groups, bedroom furniture, coffee tables and cupboards.
The skillfully handcrafted Mudo rattan furniture will be the highlight of your home with its look and quality.
SYNTHETIC WICKER
While rattan products are elegant and comfortable; they are not suitable for outdoor use. Furniture manufacturers have created rattan-imitation plastic furniture for outdoor use.
Crafted of weatherproof, man-made fibers that withstand all climates and temperatures, each piece is woven over a durable aluminum frame. The lightweight synthetic wicker offers ease of use in the garden, by the pool, by the sea, in fact, virtually anywhere.
TEAK
Teak is an extremely durable timber that is known for its high resistance to normal wear. This is why it is considered the most valuable of the trees. Teak is a rather rare material, as the tree grows only in Burma (Myanmar), Indonesia and a few other countries in the region. Teak has a high oil and rubber content, both natural water repellents, making it immune to rot. That is one of the major reasons that teak is chosen for yacht and ship decks.
Teak must be kiln dried to prevent warping and splitting. Machine made teak furniture is produced using power tools for the most precise cuts and bores. Perfect surfaces and standardized products can only be obtained through meticulous workmanship and the use of these tools.
Mudo recommends kiln dried, machine made, quality teak to offer you the very finest quality teak outdoor furniture. Our plantation grown quality teak comes solely from sustained yield forests under direct government control.
A few reminders:
- Be sure you are purchasing high quality, well dried teak without knots intended for exterior use. Younger, lower quality wood with knots can significantly affect the stability and longevity of teak furniture.
- Over time when left outdoors, teak furniture will naturally age to a handsome soft grey which many teak furniture owners love. This is a sign of the authenticity and the quality of your teak.
- To enhance and help preserve the natural beauty of teak furniture, annual maintenance is advised each spring.
Teak care
Maintenance of Teak Furniture that has turned grey
Over time when left outdoors, teak furniture will naturally age to a handsome soft grey. You can bring back its original color through oiling.
Cleaning: Clean your teak furniture with teak cleaner and lots of water.
After it has dried,
Brightening: Apply a special teak brightener to bring back shine and the golden teak color.
Oiling: Apply regular or protective teak oil with a clean brush.
- If no maintenance has taken place for a long period and the greying is deep, then professional care is advised to bring back the original color. The surface must be sanded before oil is applied.
- If you leave your teak furniture outdoors during winter, it should be left in either the open air or stored in special moist-tight bags.
Oiling
The natural oil in teak gives it its lasting durability. To compensate the loss of natural oil, it is recommended to oil your teak furniture once or twice a year.
You will need a flat brush and a clean, dry cloth. First, apply two coats of oil on the surface. Let stand for a minute, then wipe off the excess oil with the clean cloth. This will help to give an even cover. Apply the third coat the next day (at least 16 hours later). The third coat is only necessary if the furniture is subject to extreme weather conditions or the material is highly absorbent. Let the oil dry for four hours before touching (approximate time in 20°C, well-ventilated conditions). The frequency of Teak oil application is dependent on the weather conditions your furniture is subjected to.
Notes
• Do not oil on rainy or extremely hot days
• Wipe the dust off the surface with a moist cloth before applying oil.
• If sanding is necessary, 150 to 180 grit is recommended.
• We highly recommend sanding before applying oil to new wood.
TEAK ALUMINUM
Teak has always been the first choice of garden furniture manufacturers. It can be combined with various materials to create an unlimited range of designs. Non-oxidizing, light, weatherproof aluminum is the ideal match for teak. Teak aluminum seats offer the highest level of comfort, style and quality. Additionally, the gas piston used in adjustable chairs and chaises lounge offer even more comfort. This patented mechanism enables you to adjust the chair’s position whilst seated. This furniture group is ever popular with its look, quality and convenience ideal for a modern garden.
Wicker garden furniture care
- Furniture that is made of tropical plants and fibers such as rattan, banana fiber, banana peel, and sea moss are designed for use in sheltered areas.
- If a color finish is applied to the wicker furniture, extended exposure to sunlight should be avoided.
- Keep natural wicker furniture indoors, in a dry place until summer.
- If the finish of your wicker furniture is worn, apply a waterproof polish that is fade resistant.
- Loom wicker furniture is produced by spinning strands tightly over steel wires and then laying the woven material over bamboo frames. Named after Lusty’s Lloyd Loom brand, which introduced it to the world, loom is the most water resistant wicker furniture.
- Loom furniture which is made of natural material should be protected with a protective lacquer.
- Either a natural finish or waterproof color lacquer can be applied on wicker during manufacture.
- Wicker furniture, which has been a popular decoration element in recent years, can be combined with leather, silk or linen to create natural warmth.
Leather furniture care
Here are a few suggestions to prolong the life span of your leather furniture which will improve its look with use:
* To prevent fading, position your leather furniture away from windows and protect it from direct exposure to sunlight.
* Clean your leather furniture very gently, using a soft, moist piece of cloth.
* Place your furniture at least 50 cm away from heaters and radiators to prevent the leather from losing moisture and cracking.
* Polish the leather with transparent leather polish once or twice a year.

• Unless there is an opposite instruction or a warning, you can iron your tricots ??????? steam. In order to prevent the garment from brightening, you can use a moist piece of cloth on the garment when ironing.
• When putting on and taking off tricots, be careful not to damage your garment with metals such as ring and necklace.

• If the garment you have purchased is gilded, beady, has a reflector, silvery decoration, jewelery, print or embroidery on it may corrode in time depending on the using conditions. Please use such garments with more care.
How should we protect our shoes?
• Try both pairs when you buy shoes.
• Make sure that the shoes are not tight for your feet.
• The sweat the shoes absorbs evaporate in 24 hours. Thus, wearing your shoes every two days will allow you to use them for a longer period of time.
• Dry wet and damp shoes in room temperature. Never leave them to dry under radiator, heater or in the sun. Otherwise the leather may dry and crack.
• When the shoes are damp, clean off the mud and dirt using a semi-damp cloth. Clean your suede shoes using suede rubber and brush, likewise, use nubuk rubber and brush to clean nubuk shoes.
• Polish your leather shoes in either its own color or with a natural polish.
• Shoes without undercoat are very comfortable and this type of leather possesses no chemicals which may damage the health of feet. Therefore, the leather may give off color and feet and socks may be affected. Make sure that your shoes and socks are the same color.
• In order to purify your shoes from various smells, keep them airy and keep them in a mould to prevent deformation.
• The shoes with hand made stitches on may allow water to penetrate through seams. Therefore, try to avoid wearin such shoes in rainy weather as much as possible. Do not wash such shoes keeping them under water or in washing machine.
• Do not use stout leather shoes in rainy or snowy environment. Wear rubber-sole shoes.
• Use your shoes approriately for their structure and purpose. For example use jogging shoes when jogging. Deformation may occur on shoes used beyond their purpose.
• Depending on the structure of your feet and the way of using, some crinckles may occur on the leather of your shoes and these crinckles may increase the more you use them. In such cases we recommend you to put protective and softening substances on them depending on the type of leather.
• Leather shoes have hydrophobic surface and pores by nature. That is why in contact with water, the surface of leather begins to get wet and as the contact continues the shoes absorb water. You can use sprays to help prevent the shoes from absorbing water.
